Picture taking is an exercise of patience...
... and an unexpected expense in printer paper - if you want to have the camera's complete manual handy at all times.
Picture taking is also a strike of good luck, mixed with shaky hands, anxiety and laughter.
You see, we were sitting at the veranda this morning. I had the Nikon and Gordon had his Sony (video/picture camera). And we were talking about them. We are both trying to learn all their tricks and I must say that we are having fun. Anyway, I mentioned the tripod he had for this old camera.
Would it fit in mine?
Gordon brought it and - yes! - it does fit perfectly.
I had it set in front of me and started messing with the zoom. I pointed it to a "lump" on the trunk of the oak tree, in front of the house. Just to check what and how it would look in a picture.
And this happened:
Oh! MAMA MIA!!!
What to do ?? How is it that I focus mainly on the bird? HURRY UP!! It will fly away!
I felt like I had ten fingers in each hand, and no control over them. The poor tripod lost it's purpose due to my anxiety and trembling fingers.
But I got it. Right after that, it flew away. No big deal for all of you that do wonders with your cameras but, I confess I ended up with palpitations.
Picture taking is fun.
I could not figure yet - although I found it in the manual - how to do the "macros". It gets blurred and no good, so far.
And, walking in the backyard, I HAD to see a good looking grasshopper with his body shoved inside a lily, butt sticking up, very cute. Crap! I tried to set an appointment with it, for when I learn the bugger thing, but it had other things in mind. Butt sticking up... so cute.
So, for now, a hungry bunny eating the four leaf cloves in the yard, and a lucky second with a cardinal will have to do.
Not there yet. But having fun, and that's what matters.
Have a great Sunday!!

Amen to that! And you're doing GREAT!!!
i have one Nikon that if i set it to macro i have to make sure not to zoom in on something - to actually move the lens up close to the flower in order to get a clear shot. then i have a telephoto lens with a macro setting that i have to remember to step BACK from the subject in order to get a good view. each camera is different. you'll get it! in the meantime, we'll just to imagine that grasshopper butt...
smiling....nodding and laughing!!
having fun is the most important part, otherwise it becomes work!!
nice that the hubby is enjoying this with you!!!
aww hun, I'd sooooooo love to meet ya ! I have a funny feeling that one day we will !
Cute bunny and great shot of the Cardinal.
You're learning really quickly, well done!
xx
Isn't it funny, that with all the gadgets and gizmos that aren't interchangeable - that a tripod will fit every different camera in the house?
You are doing better than I am up to! I have to use the timer for most shots.
Love the bunny! He's adorable!
Haha ~ looks like you are having fun! Learning new toys takes a little time. Such a pretty bird!

Miriam, I'm so happy you are delving into photography. I love this hobby and it has opened up a new world for me.
I hope you will join us at Your Sunday Best some day to showcase your photos.
Have a lovely Monday!
you're doing great! i'd offer up one suggestion if i can...do you have the camera set to auto focus? because there are times when you might want to change it to manual, like when the focus is on the tree but you want it on the cardinal, or the grass instead of the bunny. there are tricks to over-riding the auto-focus, but i don't know the specifics on your camera. give manual focus a try and you'll see what i mean. soon you'll be shooting ALL manual! :oD
