Last evening, while I was cleaning up after dinner, I saw something by the pond. I got the camera and opened the deck door, very quietly. I managed to get one fairly good picture of our visitor.
At least good enough for you, my smart friends, to recognise what kind of big footed, yellow eyed (hope he is not having any liver problems) blue bird this one is.
Can anyone tell me? Is this "shorty" a blue heron?
He hung around that spot of the pond for quite a while. He left a squirted white poop on the rocks, climbed that twig right in front of him and balanced on it, while staring at the water.
After what I thought was a "Yuk!" sound (for which one cannot blame him, since that water is nasty), he flew to the other side of the pond, behind some bushes.
I hope he comes back.

he's a green heron (or a green-backed heron). i know, i know. he's really blue, but in certain light it's kind of a greenish teal color...
