One of the two stacks that we brought close to the house last Fall
We use lots of firewood during these awfully cold days. We have been using the fireplace during the days for quite a while. When the evening comes, we let the fire die out, and the propane heating is used throughout the night. This method has helped us a lot in saving money.
Blurred picture of our fireplace. Sorry.
We either buy the wood already cut, or when one of our trees dies, we cut it ourselves. And split, and stack, and hurt our backs.
A few years ago, we had a tremendous freezing rain that caused a mess in the backyard. Too many tree limbs were broken and we had to cut them, which produced lots of firewood.
We have two stacks like the one on the picture above by the back door of the garage. And there are about four, or five, (or more!) of the same sitting against the fence, between two of our sheds. It looks ugly over there.
I saw some pictures on the net the other day. And my two marbles started bouncing around in my head. Maybe Hubby and I could build one of these for our firewood.
I like the looks of the first one better, but Hubby and I agree that having walls all around (not necessarily this type of walls), instead of leaving it open, would be better. Just plain walls. Off the ground, away from the year long weed season. I am excited, just thinking of having one of these. We would have to be carefull with the snake nest that we would probably be creating ... """shiver"""...
Talking about snakes, last year, we were looking for something inside one of the sheds. I can't remember anymore what it was, but I do remember what we found in there.

A snake skin! Yuk!!
Anyway, I do think that one of those wood sheds would look quite neat in our backyard.

Hi there! Have no idea how to pronounce your blog name or what it means! But came over from Sharon's place to find you. Read your comment on how your husband leaves the cardboard boxes out for the cats: "Cats my dying ass" had me rolling! Just had to come follow you. :)
Aha! I went back to the beginning posts in your blog to find out the meaning/story behind your title. Very neat! And fitting since you have several kitties too! :)
I think that's a great idea! I would use the 2nd one, and have a roll down tarp for the front for when it's raining buckets or blowing snow - to keep it dry. Heck, I would like one of those to shove his motorcycle in and get it out of the garage!
My husband built a lean-to off of our garage, which is just a few steps away from the house, to store our wood. I think you will love it, if you decide to build one. :)
Nice!:-)

Oooo! I REALLY like the one with the metal roof - having as much air circulation as possible but still keeping the direct rain off...
and ditto to what texasgirl said - that comment was a hoot!
Oh how afraid I am of spiders AND snakes!! Love your fireplace. We have a nice stone fireplace as well, but it is not functioning. We need extensive work done on our flu and that's not going to happen anytime soon. We did get a gas insert and it was great until the carbon monoxide started filling the house and sent me to the ER the next day. Goodbye beautiful gas fireplace...
Well, you have lots of wood... so stay warm and enjoy!! I'm envious.
Thanks for the sweet comment on my blog... that made my day!
I could live in that second wood shed ! Nothing like a log fire - we had one in our old house.

That was only a black snake. But we have plenty of copperheads and cottonmouths too! From time to time, we do have to get our guns out and clean the pond. It gets dangerous for us and for the dogs.
It took me a few years, after I arrived, to understand that in NO WAY one puts a hand in a garden, bush, pile of wood or anything outside for that matter, without checking for snakes first. Yuk!
