Before
There are certain chores around the yard that I took away from Gordon. Just like that.
The trimming of the hedge is one of them. He did not like when it was time to do it and I, on the other hand, love it! I love any kind of work that has an obvious, noticeable end result.
I am good at cleaning nasty messes.
Freud should have an explanation for this weird pleasure that I have, when I can witness the difference, between the before and the after. Want to see?
After
It is a pleasure. Or is it not?

They were selling a few plants at the little market where I work. The prices were good and we also get my "Employee Discount". So, we bought a few of them for the veranda.
Let me show them to you.
Oh, I will do it slow. Otherwise you will be scared.
At this side of the chair, a Cheflera. At the other side, something that I loved but had absolutely no ID. No tag, no name. Nothing.
This is IT. I think it is pretty and I would love to know it's name and what it likes best - full sun, partial sun, no sun at all; lots of water, a bit, or just now and then. I could not take my eyes out of this plant, while it was sitting outside the store. I had to have it.
The leaves are so shinny and delicate.
If anyone knows what this gracious plant is, would you please tell me? I do not want to loose it.
Right now, it gets plenty of light but no sun at all. It cannot be right, you think?
For our private deck, we bought a "Cataractarum Palm"... What a name!
At that corner, it gets full sun in the afternoon. Which is what it needs. Right?
As if we did not have enough green around us...

pretty setting! i put all of my indoor plants out on the patio this week as well. then the temperature dropped back down so hopefully they aren't too touchy.
i think your mystery plant is a false aralia. "false" as in it's similarity to cannabis. or you could have a real pot plant there! try smoking it to be sure. ;o)
You have such a gorgeous veranda! It is so pretty. All the plants look lush - sorry, I haven't a clue what the mystery plant is!
The 'before' photo of your hedge looks like me this morning before my trip to the hairdressers, and the 'after' photo is how I look now!
Cute puppy, ahhhh.
xx
i was going to say, with that hedge trimming skill, you should have been a barber. Edward Scissorhands lives! :)
Your veranda looks so inviting, Miriam. I wish I had something like that!
I was going to say your plant looks like a pot plant -- but the leaves are shinier. :)
WOWWWWWWWWW! It's all so beautiful. How the hell did you get such a flat top on that hedge??? Clever! xxxxx
Bon-Bon, Joanna, Theresa, Nancy and Tracey,
Thank you for your kind words! We do enjoy the veranda a lot. I wish you could come and spend an afternoon with us out there.
I'll keep the beer cold (or the ice tea if you prefer), just in case!
And, Bon Bon, thanks so much for identiying that plant for me! Yes, I googled it and it is a False Aralia. Thank you a ton! I believe I will have to move it a bit closer to where the sun hits. Too shady at that spot.
Love ya'll!!
Miriam
A cold beer would be just perfect!
If only..........

I love your veranda - it reflects your personality definitely on your blog - pretty, inviting, and comfortable!
You have a great veranda and i enjoyed seeing it - Great job on the trimming. That's my job here at the house too. I use to love it...but not so much anymore because there is way too much to trim.
