Dear Diary

My mother had four aunts that never got married. They lived to be old as dirt, the poor things, all of them together in an old house. The only other living creature in that house was their brother that found it was his moral obligation to stay a bachelor, in order to care for his sisters.

Oh, the old times... things were different.

One of these women had a diary. She wrote in it every night. Her name was Alice.

One day, while visiting her aunts with her parents, my mom went to aunt Alice's bedroom. And there it was, sitting on top of the night stand. Alice's Diary. Curiosity got the best of my mom, she opened it, and saw what her aunt had written the night before:

"Today I ate marmalade."

That was it!

How dull could a woman's life be?

Last Monday, we finally went to the Chiropractor. She managed to put my back in place - sorta-kinda. I came home in lots of pain all over, including a headache that would not subside, even after I had a few pills.

Yesterday was working "at the office" day. I came home too tired and in too much pain to be able to sit here and write anything.

My back, mostly around my waist, is crooked. Twisted. Messed. And, as always, one thing leads to another. Being out of place, it causes local pain, and pain down my left leg. Lots of it! If it does not hurt, it burns, all the way down to the calf of my leg.

This morning we went back to the Chiropractor. She worked again on my back. I can say that there is already a positive difference between the last appointment and today's.

Although the day is beautiful, and it is a glorious 75F outside, I don't feel like doing anything. Yet.

I just hope I don't come here one day and write:

"Today I ate marmalade."

Love ya!

Oh your poor great aunts!!! Made me chuckle though!

My hubby has the same chiro stories. Can be okay, gets adjusted and thus starts the pain and sciatica nerve problems. Then next time, gets adjusted and is all okay. Sorry you're having such problems!!!

Glad your last treatment was helpful!

I believe if the only thing I could write in my diary that I had eaten marmalade, I believe the next one would be, today I am going to hang myself! Even my boring life is not that bad!

Warmer there than here! I wish it was 75 here, I would open all the windows and air the place out!

Things sure were simpler back then, that's for sure! Too bad your aunts didn't get married because there's lots of drama in marriage! Maybe, though, your aunts knew how stressful marriage can be and they were smart to just sit around and eat marmalade in peace! LOL!

Oh Miriam, your poor back. In my experience it takes a few 'goes' with the bone cruncher before the back starts to feel anywhere near normal.

'I ate marmalade' is SO touching. Maybe Alice really had nothing else to write about. Kinda sad.

Take lots of care, my friend and allow yourself to recover.

Well, maybe it was really GOOD marmalade, ya think?

Hope you back gets to feeling better, Miriam. I find my just gets re-aggravated whenever I lift or twist or... move. Just the way it is. I've learned to live with it.

Your weather sounds lovely.

Well, maybe marmalade was a real joy to her! I know it sounds crazy, but I've noted recently that if I only say 'thanks' for the big things in life, I don't really feel as though I have much to be grateful for. If I take note of the little things (like marmalade!) then I truly feel that life is good... I wonder if that was the case with her. The diary reminds me a bit of Cranford, which I'm reading. Those were ladies with narrow lives...

Very best of luck with your back - I can just about imagine how miserable it must be, and I wish you healing very soon.
