This picture is for my dear Tracey. And there is nothing nasty about it, mind you. This is JUST a sweet potato that Hubby and I dug from our garden, a few years ago!

I grew up speaking Portuguese, and graduated college to become a Portuguese teacher. My father was Austrian and my mother is a Portuguese descendant. English was a language that we learned in school. I am saying this because I am absolutely sure that, as I write this blog, there will be many, MANY mistakes in my writing, for which I beg your pardon. I do use the "Check Spelling" but that does not help with the grammar, unfortunately. When I arrived at this corner of the US, I had amazing experiences with the language and the different expressions used by the locals. The list of new words that I learned is big! The first time a co-worker asked me "Are you fixin [*sic] to go home?", it took me a while to understand that the lady meant "Are you getting ready to go home?".
Pants became britches. Lunch became dinner, and dinner became supper!?
"Have you finished?" became "Are you done did?".
The examples are many, and after a while, I just loved these differences. I think they are funny and they give me a tender feeling towards the people in general.

The entrance to our house, last spring. The wooden door, built by my husband, leads to the garage. The veranda was also built by him and I already started painting its ceiling. He builds and I PAINT (which I love doing!).
My husband is retired, and as I told before, I still work. I need to work to complete my time for Social Security, when I turn 65... or 69... or 78... whatever this Government finally decides to establish as "retirement age". Oh, boy! But I only work two days a week and that's enough for me, for sure.
We do work a lot at home, though. And we both love it. We own two and a half acres of "backyard"; we plant gardens, and can what we harvest. "Got to keep them old folks busey, right?"
Slowly, I will post the pictures of the changes we (mostly him) made to our house throughout these years.

Welcome!
I smiled at the spell check comment - it doesn't always help, with words that can be spelled 3 ways and have 3 different meanings.
Nice to meet you!
Hello!! I've come over via Tracey's blog and it's nice to meet you--Any friend of hers is a friend of mine!! :-) I look forward to following you and getting to you know you!
Hiya, I'm Tracey's friend too ! Love your style. Reading your last post made me smile as today I've written about a relative finding me by discovering my blog !
Glad things worked for you - a friend of mine has been totally misled by a man she met on the net. He promised her the world but has not delivered - I suppose it was all lies.
