How we broke our backs last spring

Up the road from the front of our house. The left side, almost all the way up to the corner, belongs to us. And this is how it was looking, last Spring. We were scared of it, and you can see why. The weeds were up to our waists. The cedar trees along the fence had branches so low that we had problems mowing either side, close to the fence, and the ditch.

So, we started working. Cutting and trimming the cedar's branches, collecting and piling it up to, later, burn.It was a tremendous job that took us a long time to finish. Heavy! And all the twist and turn, bend and pull. Ouch!

We would work early in the morning, for about an hour each time.

We are old people. We are not so strong anymore.

The end result was good. We liked it.

The lower branches were so compact and filled with weeds that climbed all the way to the top that the soil underneath it did not get sunlight, and the grass would not grow there. Just more weeds.

This is the front of our house. The area that I was talking about is at the very right hand corner (where you can see little piece of the road) of the picture above. If you click on it, it will be HUGE! You will even have to scroll sideways to be able to see it all. I think.

And we both messed up our backs! Seriously. We ended up going to a Chiropractor to have our backs put back in place. Mine still hurts and, from time to time, I feel like my butt is going to fall off.

Hubby and I do everything by ourselves around here. I will, in the future, post a picture of the house before he built the veranda and the two garages. I will have to scan the pictures (the before and the after). Then you will see the amount of work that was done. We love our house a whole lot, and enjoy every corner of it.

Even if our backs hurt.
